I dont like cooking, I bake stuff sometimes, bread, maybe a cake. And bbq seems a lot like baking to me. I can cut stuff, not fast, not very even I can measure ingredients I know how to adjust the temperature on my oven.
A bbq works similarly, once I figured out what a great gift to mankind charcoal chimneys are, especially if I use my gas stove in the kitchen for fast ignition,I WAS HOOKED! The only thing that still needs some work is convincing my wife that a bit of ash is the price you pay for good food. Or allow me to get a new grill with better ash catcher!
